Ex Libris (Germany) is pleased to announce that, following a detailed evaluation, the University of Mittweida in Saxony, Germany has chosen ALEPH 500™ as its new library automation system. The University will also deploy SFX® eXpress, a hosted solution enabling institutions to run the award-winning SFX product for context-sensitive linking to resources, without the need to manage local servers.
Ex Libris is pleased to implement ALEPH 500 at the University of Mittweida, the first local university system within the German SWB Library Consortium, explains Michael Luetgen, Managing Director of Ex Libris Germany. ALEPH will replace the librarys current LIBERO of LIB-IT system. The project plan envisages a switch to production during Q4, 2005. Important reasons for the award of the contract to Ex Libris and ALEPH 500 were the systems state-of-the-art, open architecture, user-friendly interfaces, handling of digital objects within the ALEPH workflow, the integrated hierarchical thesaurus module, as well as the completely integrated serials control for journals and reviews.
Another key factor in the librarys choice of ALEPH 500 was that Ex Libris is able to support the OCLC/PICA OUF interface to be used by the SWB Library Consortium starting in 2006.

Founded in 1867, this facility which originally provided education of mechanical engineers began attracting a large number of students. By the turn of the century the “Technicum Mittweida” was already one of the largest private education facilities in Germany.
