Purdue University selects a fully hosted Ex Libris solution to power the electronic search and link environment for Purdues 14 libraries
Newton MA—February 13, 2007. Ex Libris™ Group is pleased to announce that Purdue University Libraries has implemented the MetaLib® and SFX® solutions to power the campus electronic search and link environment. Purdue is running both products in a fully hosted (application server provider [ASP]) mode to serve its 14 campus libraries.
In selecting the MetaLib gateway and metasearch system and the SFX link server, Purdue University Libraries upgraded its former federated search tool, Discovery: Finder, and its former link resolver, Discovery: Resolver, both from Endeavor Information Systems. (Endeavor Information Systems was merged with Ex Libris Group in December 2006.)
Purdue is the latest addition to an impressive, growing list of institutions that have migrated to the MetaLib or MetaLib/SFX solutions in recent months. These institutions include the University of Connecticut, the University of Oregon, and Kansas State University.
Purdue University expedited the implementation of MetaLib and SFX with the Ex Libris Jump Start program, a fast-track model designed to help customers deploy the Ex Libris metasearch and link server systems rapidly. With the Jump Start model, we leveraged the product expertise of Ex Libris staff and Purdues working knowledge of how and what the libraries wanted to accomplish, commented Dan Trajman, president of Ex Libris, Inc. Collaborating in this way allowed us to deliver the system in an extraordinarily compact time frame.
We enjoyed working with Ex Libris on this project, said Paul Bracke, Purdues associate dean for information technology. Ex Libris offered a superb plan to implement the products in the tight time frame before us, enabling us to deliver these significant enhancements to our campus information architecture in time for the 2007 winter semester.
