Ex Libris (Germany) is pleased to announce that the renowned Forschungszentrum Rossendorf (FZR) Research Institute in Saxony, Germany has chosen ALEPH 500™ for its new integrated library system. The selection followed an evaluation process which consisted of an onsite trial period that lasted several months during which integrated library systems of various suppliers were considered. ALEPH 500 will replace FZRs home-grown RoBis library system.
Among the key factors for choosing ALEPH 500 were the systems open architecture, flexible user interfaces, and the ease with which ALEPH 500 will integrate with FZRs existing infrastructure including Ex Libris support for the OCLC/PICA OUF interface, used by the SWB Library Consortium. The integrated management of digital objects using the ADAM (ALEPH Digital Asset Management) Module within ALEPH 500 opens new possibilities of full-text retrieval through the ALEPH Web OPAC enabling immediate onscreen viewing.
About the Forschungszentrum Rossendorf (FZR) Library:
The Forschungszentrum Rossendorf Institute is engaged in application-oriented research using photon and particle radiation. The main topics to which the Institute are devoted are studying matter down to the nano-range, protection of humankind and environment from technical risks, and tumor research. The scientific work of FZR is contributed by the institutes of Ion-Beam Physics and Materials Research, Bioinorganic and Radiopharmaceutical Chemistry, Nuclear and Hadronic Physics, Safety Research, Radiochemistry, and the Dresden High Magnetic Field Laboratory. The two scientific central departments of Research Technology and Radiation Source ELBE also support the Institutes work
Since 1956, the FZR library has supplied scientific literature and information to staff and visiting scientists. As new retrieval options for scientists and patrons increase, the library has begun focusing on additional performance features such as the provision of bibliographic and scientific databases as well as e-journals.
