Newton MA—March 22, 2007. Ex Libris™ Group is pleased to announce that the Universite du Quebec has selected ALEPH® 500 as the integrated library management system for eight of its academic libraries. The new system will be deployed at Universite du Quebec a Trois-Rivieres, Universite du Quebec a Chicoutimi, Universite du Quebec a Rimouski, Universite du Quebec en Outaouais, Universite du Quebec en Abitibi-Temiscamingue, Institut national de la recherche scientifique, Ecole nationale dadministration publique, and Ecole de technologie superieure. Approximately 37,000 students and 1,300 professors and researchers will benefit from the new system. ALEPH 500 will replace the consortiums current home-grown system and will be hosted at the Universite du Quebec a Trois-Rivieres site.
We were looking for a standards-based solution with advanced consortial functionality capable of supporting a union catalogue, observed Line Cormier, Directrice des bibliotheques et du soutien technologique a l’enseignement at the Universite du Quebec. We were impressed with the Ex Libris suite of innovative and collaborative products such as SFX®, which we have been using already for over two years. We look forward to now being able to add full linking to ALEPH as well. Based on our experience with Ex Libris and our current business relationship, the university felt secure about adding ALEPH 500 to our library software environment.
Gilles Caron, Directeur – Bibliotheque Paul-Emile-Boulet at the Universite du Quebec a Chicoutimi, commented, Our focus at the Universite du Quebec is providing our combined research communities with seamless access to information, using the latest in intuitive and streamlined interfaces. ALEPHs OPAC configurability will allow us to customize our search module to better serve our students, professors, and researchers. And of course, being in Quebec, we needed a solution that was available completely in French, from the technical-service modules to the help screens.
ALEPHs full Unicode support, which provides multidirectional and multiscript text capabilities, is in use at institutions worldwide. Installed in scores of countries throughout the world, the flexible interfaces allow both public and staff users to interface with the system in their preferred language.
Susan Pastore, vice president of sales at Ex Libris, Inc., commented, When we heard from the Universite du Quebec of their ambitious plans for a future information environment, we knew immediately that their vision and our experience with large academic consortia would go hand in hand.
