Migration to the cloud will relieve library staff of hardware and software management chores leaving them more time for core library tasks.
Dresden University of Applied Sciences (HTW Dresden ) and Leipzig University of Applied Sciences (HTWK Leipzig ) selected Alma and Primo to evolve their library services to meet changes in users’ preferences that have occurred in recent years and the dramatic increase in the quantity of electronic resources in the libraries’ collections.
I spoke with Petra-Sibylle Stenzel, library head at HTW Dresden and she stressed that they are convinced that the combination of Alma and Primo is the way forward for the institution: “The success of both solutions has been proven clearly in the United States and Europe, and we anticipate that Alma and Primo will more than fulfill our high expectations. I am especially looking forward to the unified management of all resource types and to new opportunities for communication and cooperation between our internal teams and between our library and external networks. Closer to home, Alma Analytics will provide insightful statistical data at the push of a button and make it easier to ensure that acquisitions are tailored to our needs. We are hoping—along with other libraries in the German-speaking world—to customize Alma to address some of the specific requirements of our region.”
Dr. Klaus-Steffen Dittrich, director of the library at HTWK Leipzig mentioned the benefits from the cloud-based infrastructure of the solutions, which will dramatically reduce maintenance and IT costs. He also said “Alma and Primo will not only enable us to use one solution for managing all the resource types housed by the library but will also provide our users with a single interface for searching for all resources.”
